What I offer
As a Counselling Psychologist I have received extensive training in psychology together with further training in Psychotherapeutic and Counselling Psychology.  I have been trained to offer counselling in a range of psychological therapies including psychodynamic, relational, humanistic and cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT).  I work integratively, which means that I tailor my approach to fit individual needs, rather than try to make the individual fit the theory.  I am able to offer appointments in both Shrewsbury and Welshpool.

I work collaboratively with people across a diverse range of human difficulties.  For example, this might include helping people manage difficult life events such as bereavement, abuse, past and present relationships and working with mental health issues and disorders.  I believe that the most important aspect of therapeutic work, and indeed as proven by research, is the quality of the working relationship that develops between counsellor and client.

I adopt an holistic stance, and my training within different psychological therapies enables me to tailor the therapeutic approach to you, rather than expecting you to fit into a theory. I am interested in understanding you within the context which your concerns and difficulties exist, and hold the belief that both past and present experiences may contribute to ongoing difficulties. I hold respect for the many different experiences of individuals irrespective of gender, sexuality, culture or race.

I accept subjective experience as valid, and believe that a collaborative and non-judgmental relationship helps support and empower people to consider change.  The most important aspect of therapeutic work for me, and indeed as proven by research, is the quality of the working relationship that is developed between client and counsellor.
