As a Counselling Psychologist I have received extensive training in psychology, together with further training in Psychotherapeutic and Counselling Psychology. This training encompassed a number of different psychological approaches; psychodynamic, relational, humanistic and cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT). The depth of my training equips and enables me to tailor my approach to fit individual needs, rather than try to make the individual fit the theory.

I work collaboratively with people across a diverse range of human difficulties.

For example, this might include helping people manage difficult life events such as bereavement, abuse, past and present relationships and working with mental health issues and disorders. I believe that the most important aspect of therapeutic work, and indeed as proven by research, is the quality of the working relationship that develops between counsellor and client.

I am interested in understanding you within the context which your concerns and difficulties exist, and hold the belief that both past and present experiences may contribute to ongoing difficulties. I hold respect for the many different experiences of individuals irrespective of gender, sexuality, culture or race.

Examples of areas of counselling I deal with

  • Abuse
  • Addiction(s)
  • Anger management
  • Anxiety
  • Bereavement
  • Career issues
  • Depression
  • Dissociation
  • Identity issues
  • Loss
  • Low self esteem
  • Low self confidence
  • Miscarriage
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Phobias
  • Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Relationship Issues
  • Stress
  • Termination/Abortion
  • Transitions (e.g. birth, marriage, divorce, redundancy, retirement)
  • Trauma
  • Work-related issues

The above list is certainly not exhaustive, rather it gives a flavour of some of the issues people bring to counselling. Sometimes I find that people come to counselling because they just feel something is wrong, perhaps they feel unhappy or discontent in some way. If something is causing you concern, then counselling may help. Please feel free to contact me if you wish to discuss in more detail whether counselling might be a useful option for you.
